Peatlands Gathering 2021 will take place over several sessions with a wide variety of speakers and topics on 7-8th October 2021 (online).

Peatlands play a significant role in the natural and cultural heritage of Ireland and the aim of the Gathering is to share knowledge and understandings, and to cultivate a new beginning for peatlands in Ireland. The first event welcomes all who are interested in peatlands: community groups, farmers, land managers, forestry groups, peat producers, academics, public representatives, policy makers and the general public.

Key messages from the Gathering will be presented at the upcoming meeting on Climate Change (COP26) in Glasgow in November 2021.

The full speaker line-up, presentation topics and times are available from the website here. Among the speakers at the event are Terrain-AI researchers Ken Byrne (UL) and Matt Saunders (TCD).

Ken will speak on the “Current state of knowledge of carbon cycling in Irish peatlands”, Matt will present on “Addressing Climate Action and the role of Irish peatlands: The SmartBog project”.
