As part of a joint research initiative between Terrain-AI and Met Éireann, our first soil moisture sensors have been installed at the Grange/Dunsany Met Éireann site.
The sensors were installed by Terrain-AI lead researchers Rowan Fealy and Tim McCarthy with Tony O’Leary from Met Éireann.
This installation is the first in a broader series of soil moisture installations across the Met Éireann network of sites over the coming weeks.
The 1m time-domain reflectometer (TDR) sensors measure the soil water content profile by gathering data on moisture, electrical conductivity and temperature at nine depths in the soil profile. These readings will be relayed by to the Terrain-AI Open Data Cube in real time where they are integrated with the multiple other data sets that are leveraged on our platform.
