{"id":2521,"date":"2021-09-13T16:24:11","date_gmt":"2021-09-13T16:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/terrainai.com\/?p=2521"},"modified":"2021-09-13T16:27:34","modified_gmt":"2021-09-13T16:27:34","slug":"forestry-install-mast-laois","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/terrainai.com\/index.php\/2021\/09\/13\/forestry-install-mast-laois\/","title":{"rendered":"Terrain-AI\u00a0Forestry Team Install\u00a0Instrumented\u00a0Mast at Co Laois Site"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Terrain-AI Forestry team were on-site&nbsp;at one of our forest sites in Co&nbsp;Laois on&nbsp;the&nbsp;9th&nbsp;&amp; 10th&nbsp;September&nbsp;to&nbsp;take delivery and&nbsp;install&nbsp;the mast for the meteorological&nbsp;instruments&nbsp;and carbon sensors being deployed&nbsp;as part of our&nbsp;national&nbsp;network of benchmark sites.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Standing at&nbsp;40 metres&nbsp;tall,&nbsp;the tower&nbsp;will&nbsp;directly&nbsp;measure&nbsp;the exchange of greenhouse gases, heat and water&nbsp;between the forest&nbsp;canopy&nbsp;and the&nbsp;overlying&nbsp;atmosphere.&nbsp;State of the art sensors&nbsp;deployed on the tower will collect data on temperature, moisture, wind speed and direction and carbon dioxide&nbsp;and take more than 600 measurements per minute; such measurements play a vital role in understanding how forests respond to changing weather and climate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the Forestry team, researchers Dr Brian Tobin and&nbsp;Dr Maryam Fazlollahi&nbsp;(UDC) and Dr Caren Jarmain (UL) were present to assist with the installation of the tower.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site\u00a0in Laois\u00a0is\u00a0one of more than\u00a020 benchmark sites\u00a0across Ireland that\u00a0collect\u00a0similar measurements, which\u00a0are relayed back to\u00a0our data platform\u00a0in near real time.
